How can we better communicate and partner with God as we connect with people from other backgrounds?

The Local Missions workshop will help you unlock natural connections between God’s Kingdom and the culture of the harvest field. We will explore where God has placed you through group processing of Scripture, personal reflection and targeted input from practitioners.

This interactive workshop runs for 1.5 days over two Saturdays.

Modules:

Module 1 – The Gospel

We wrestle with the relationship between the Gospel we’re used to hearing, the Gospel that Jesus proclaimed, and the broader story of God throughout the Bible. Get ready for some profound discoveries hidden in plain sight!

Module 2 – The Kingdom of God & Culture

Building on the broader narrative of Scripture, we trace the relationship between God’s Kingdom and religious culture through the Old Testament and New Testament. We explore how this might apply to us as Christians in the 21st century.

Module 3 – Working It Out ... Practical Application

In this module, we will draw on what we’ve learned from Scripture to enable us to partner more effectively in God’s work in our own communities and in the harvest around us.

We will zoom in on our individual and corporate contexts, workshopping the implications of what we have learnt for our personal discipleship journey and how we relate to the harvest and identifying concrete next steps.

This workshop leads to the Local Missions Training, a Singapore-based Disciple-Making Movements (DMM) training designed in and for Asian contexts which provides extended Biblical reflection, practical tools and coaching support to help harvest workers engage cross-culturally and make disciples wherever God has placed them.

Taken together, this discipleship training process will help you be a disciple and make disciples in a way that can lead to movement as you wrestle with the Word and what God is doing in your context.

Reflections from past participants:

“The workshop gave me a better understanding of what it really means to be a believer of Jesus Christ. I learnt about Jesus’ ways of making God’s kingdom known and engaging the lost, the importance of spirit-led prayer, and how to engage people of other cultures and beliefs from a common ground.” – SP

“I realised the gospel and mission is so influenced by church culture, which explained my dissonance about the current state of evangelism in church. I appreciated going back to God’s word and what he says about the gospel and extension of his kingdom.” – LT

“I found the Local Mission Workshop very enlightening. It helped me become more sensitive and respectful toward the mindset and values of other cultural groups. I learnt to identify people’s spiritual hunger and seek to understand the motivation behind their traditions and cultural practices. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone who has a desire to reach families or friends in another cultural group with the gospel.” – TT
