Recently Scott, a West Melbourne leader, saw Rob (*name changed) in the Melbourne CBD. Rob was moving from person to person asking them for spare change. Against his instincts, Scott felt God prompting him to have a chat. Rob is a white Aussie in a tough place – lonely, addicted to a number of things that aren’t helping him much, and no job except earning roughly $10 per hour asking people for money. They chatted for a while, and Scott told him a story he had read recently with some friends (Jn 8:1-10). Rob was moved by the story and they discussed it for a while. As Scott left, Rob invited him to come back and chat again. When he returned a week later, Rob gave Scott a warm handshake and the first thing he said was, “I told someone the story!”. Rob would not consider himself a follower of Jesus, but he enjoys the stories and is sharing them with others.
